| DESCRIPTION
Roads & Boats is a long, strategic game in which each player builds up a
civilization. From humble beginnings (a woodcutter, a stonemason) their
economies expand to include trucks, steamships, and even a stock exchange.
Unlike most games, however, the emphasis is not on warfare, population growth,
city or state-building, but on logistics, or rather: on transport, with each
player trying to outcompete others in building roads, constructing factories,
breeding geese and donkeys, inventing gold mines etcetera. but beware! there is
no concept of territory in the game, so anything you build can be used by any
other player!
Each player starts the game with three donkeys, a pile of wooden boards, a
number of stones and two geese. With these few resources, you try to build such
diverse things as woodcutters, roads, boats, mines, a stock exchange... but
beware! There is no concept of territory in this game: you cannot own land, nor
buildings, so the things you build can be used by any other player...
This third edition of Roads & Boats contains wooden transporters in the shape of
donkeys, wagons, trucks, rafts, rowing-boats and steamers.
The game can be played by two to four players, but it can also be used as a
one-person puzzle. Material for a fifth and a sixth player is available in the
&Cetera expansion.

Antiquity (2nd Ed)

Each strategy requires a completely different style of play. Or you can choose to adore Santa Maria, the most powerful saint of all -- but you'll be expected to build a civilization twice as impressive as any other player. |
